In all the hustle and bustle, I sometimes need a reminder to slow things down and remember the importance of my relationship with the Lord and all the blessings that He's brought into my life. So, I keep a couple men's devotionals at home to keep me centered, learning and communicating with God every day.
I've found that the strength and peace I get from my private reflection time has improved my relationships with those I love, fueled my fire for success and brought me comfort and support in my times of need. I can honestly say that since I've adopted the practice of reading and meditating on the daily passages has made a substantial and amazing difference in my happiness by more clearly realizing who I am and the plan God has for me.
I have several devotionals written specifically for men, but my favorite has to be Promises to Keep: Daily Devotions for Men Seeking Integrity by Nick Harrison. What makes it my favorite among many is that Harrison has carefully collected amazing daily devotionals from a large number of the finest past and current Christian writers the world has ever seen. It's amazing to me how a passage written almost 800 years ago by St. Francis of Assisi can be just as deeply moving and relatable one shared by more contemporary Christians, like Max Lucado.
Starting my day with a devotional has made huge differences in my family, professional and spiritual lives. In fact, the thought and reflection has intertwined them in a way that I didn't realize was possible. It's a special time that I take to focus on my Christian values, so I can begin my day being the man I want to be.
